Sofwave is the newest FDA-approved skin tightening treatment (it was originally cleared in 2019 for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles and more recently in November of 2021 for lifting above the eyebrows, under the chin, and the neck tissue).It's getting a lot of buzz for a few reasons: It's non-invasive, there's little to no pain, there's zero downtime, and you only need one treatment to see results. 

A good candidate for Sofwave™ is typically, those in their 30s and older who have mild to moderate skin aging. The potential patient should have some degree of fine lines and wrinkles.

The in-office treatment is a form of ultrasound technology that produces heat below the surface of your skin to naturally create new collagen. With high-frequency ultrasound, the goal is to cause coagulation of tissue.

Coagulation in the skin can be thought of as a temporary injury. This temporary injury leads to a contraction of tissues (aka bringing the fibers closer together) and then a powerful stimulation of collagen and elastin production that peaks at around three to six months.

Sofwave™ is FDA cleared for lifting the eyebrow, submental tissue and neck, lower face and arma, as well as for the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. However, you can address pretty much any area where you're bothered by laxity and sagging. Other parts of the body that has responded well to Sofwave include hands, abdomens, upper thighs, and above the knee.

Immediate results can be seen as soon as 1 week following the treatment. However, the collagen regeneration process can sometimes take up to 12 weeks, so patients are expected to see ongoing improvements in 3 months after their treatment.

At 3 months, a majority of patients were marked as improved to very much improved following a single treatment session only. 72% of the patients were satisfied with their results and rated them as improved to very much improved. The safety profile was strong with no serious adverse events reported by study participants.
