Anti-Wrinkle

"Smooth it Out"

Smooth, soften, refine wrinkles! A light neuromodulator treatment of face, neck and décolletage maintains natural expression while improving the overall youthful quality of the skin. The treatment is also a preventative measure against the development of deeply etched lines and wrinkles. Each patient requires their own specfic treatment plan; therefore, the amount of units used is not a “one size fits all.” At Truth Medical Aesthetics, our advanced injection will detemine the best amount needed to meet your individualized goals and desired results.

WRINKLES RELAXERS

Botox®

Botox® Cosmetic will improve or eliminate worry lines, crow's feet, and soften the lines around the mouth. It corrects wrinkles by temporarily suspending the facial muscle action that causes them. Within 5 to 10 days, the treated areas will begin to soften and smooth out, and the wrinkles will continue to fade over the course of the next few weeks. Cost varies on desired effect and number of areas treated.

Dysport®

Dysport® is a prescription injection for the temporary improvement in the look of moderate to severe frown lines. The majority of patients see improvement in just 3-5 days after treatment. Untreated muscles still work normally, so you can continue to express feelings naturally. It's the lines that disappear, not your expressions.

Xeomin®

Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA), made by Merz Pharmaceuticals, is approved by the US FDA for the treatement of adults with cervical dystonia or blepharospasm and Moderate to severe frown lines between the brows. Xeomin® is the first one that does not need to be refrigerated before use, which may simplify distribution. Xeomin® is also has no additives, just botulinum toxin type A. This may mean that there is less risk of developing antibodies against Xeomin® than other available neurotoxins.

JEUVEAU®

Jeuveau® (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) injection is an FDA-approved prescription medicine used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. In a consumer survey of >9,000 people treated with Jeuveau, 94% were satisfied with their overall treatment.

What is the difference: Dysport vs. Botox vs. Xeomin?

While all three neurotoxins are similar in their make-up and function, they have slight differences. The formulation of Xeomin differs slightly from the others as it contains no additives and does not require refrigeration. They also vary slightly in the appearance of results. The effects of Botox spread three to five days after treatment when the full effects are seen. Xeomin can take even longer, with full results in roughly five to seven days. Dysport, or abobotulinumtoxina, is the option where results in the target areas will be seen most rapidly, with visible results within one to two days after treatment.

Xeomin and Dysport treatment also have greater diffusion than Botox, which allows them to reduce the appearance of wrinkles over a larger area such as the forehead. Botox is much more targeted and one of the most effective treatments for severe wrinkles in the glabellar lines. All three options are effective to all targeted areas.

Which neurotoxin is best for me? Dysport vs. Botox vs. Xeomin?

Botox®, Dysport®, and XEOMIN® are all incredible choices and are effective at their mission: smoothing out wrinkles and rejuvenating your skin. The best neurotoxin for you is entirely dependent on your beauty goals, facial structure, age, budget, and YOU

BOTOX®

  • FDA Approval: The first neurotoxin to be approved by the FDA as a temporary aesthetic treatment to improve the appearance of frown lines between the eyebrows in April 2002. It has since been cleared to treat forehead lines and crow's feet, too (in addition to all its "off label" uses).

  • The Skinny: Botox®, or onabotulinumtoxinA, is a product of the drugmaker Allergan, and it currently holds an estimated 80 percent of the BoNT-A injection market. With a molecular weight of 900 kDa, Allergan formulates botulinum toxin type A with protective proteins that a subset of patients may develop an antibody against over time, lessening the effectiveness of the treatment.

There is also a therapeutic version of product that can be used to treat medical conditions like migraines, excessive sweating, and eye spasms (to name a few).

  • The Results: Botox® is effective but not permanent. It takes about three to five days post-treatment for the results to appear (though it can take up to two weeks for the final effect to be visible), and it lasts about three to four months in most patients. The longevity depends on everything from the way a patient's body metabolizes the product to the area being treated.

DYSPORT®

  • FDA Approval: Dysport® was first approved to treat frown lines in April 2009, and, like Botox®, also has therapeutic uses to calm muscle spasticity.

  • The Skinny: A product of Medicis Pharmaceutical, Dysport® (a.k.a. abobotulinumtoxinA) is slightly less potent than Botox® due to its molecular weight. While both have the same 150 kDa of BoNT-A at their core, the weight of the protective proteins in Dysport® are not uniform like those in Botox®. As a result, Dysport® has a higher rate of diffusion, which makes it ideal for treating larger areas (think: foreheads) — though more product may be needed to achieve results. Nonetheless, the cost is generally comparable to Botox®. Like Botox®, it is formulated with human albumin, and Dysport® also contains lactose and cow's milk protein — making it unsuitable for patients with milk allergies.

The Results: While the effects of Dysport® may show up sooner (within 24 hours) than Botox®, some studies have shown that they may not last as long.  I find they both last about the same, but the shorter lifespan could make it a good choice for patients who are unsure about whether they will like the results of BoNT-A injections.

XEOMIN®

  • FDA Approval: Xeomin® was approved by the FDA for the treatment of frown lines in July 2011 (and it has also been medically approved to correct muscle spasticity and, most recently, excessive drooling).

  • The Skinny: Merz-made Xeomin® (a.k.a. incobotulinumtoxinA) is unique in that it does not blend BoNT-A with complexing proteins. As a result, the neurotoxin doesn't need to be refrigerated and it may be slightly more comfortable to have injected because it is stored at room temperature. Xeomin® generally costs about the same as Botox® and Dysport® — but fewer units may be needed to achieve the desired result. Patients who show signs of resistance to Botox® and Dysport® may find success with Xeomin® due to the purified state of BoNT-A

-The Results: Results from Xeomin® injections take five to seven days to become visible and last a similar amount of time to Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®.

JEUVEAU®

  • FDA Approval: Jeuveau, owned by Evolus, received FDA clearance as a wrinkle treatment in 2019. The FDA clearance approved use to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults. It’s focus is solely on the use for cosmetic purposes.

  • The Skinny: Jeuveau, also coined the name “Newtox,” is the new kid on the block. It contains the same active ingredient as Botox, and both are used to treat wrinkles. Essentially, It's the same ingredients, but a different recipe. Newtox has been proven to be safe,  takes about 15 minutes, requires no downtime, and produces results that last three to four months.

The Results: Results from Jeuveau® injections take 2-5 days to become visible and last a similar amount of time to Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®, although the company Evolus, claims to last longer than the others - up to 4 months.
